Taken into custody for allegedly “violating the military zone” while covering the situation of refugees at the border and arrested in early May on charges of “being a member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)” and “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” after his social media posts were examined, Rudaw TV Turkey reporter Rawin Sterk’s attorney Özcan Kılıç appealed against Rawin Sterk’s arrest on July 24. Arguing that there had been a prosecution against Sterk on charge of “membership of a terrorist organization” and the offenses charged in the last indictment were repetitive, Kılıç said, “The allegations cited as justification in an ongoing court case cannot underlie a second case” (June 4).
