Arrested for 14 days in 2017 for “violating the confidentiality of the investigation” because he “published the statement of a Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ) suspect”, journalist Murat Güreş applied to the Gaziantep 10th High Criminal Court after his acquittal became final and demanded 70 thousand Turkish Lira (TRY) in damages for “unfair arrest.” The Court ruled that only 1,600 TRY should be paid to the journalist to compensate for the damage and aggrievement he had been subjected to. The journalist announced that he would appeal against the ruling, saying, “We cannot be happy that we have won. We will keep on struggling for justice to be served, more than for the money” (February 17).
