It has been 17 years since Yaşar Parlak, the founder of the Silvan Mücadele newspaper, was killed in an armed attack in the yard of the Selahaddin Eyyubi Mosque in Silvan, Diyarbakır. Parlak was killed on August 18, 2004, which was some three months after he published his book where he offered a detailed account of various human rights violations such as 250 murders, 45 injuries, 111 cases of torture, 13 enforced disappearances and 316 forced migrations perpetrated by Hezboullah and the Gendarmerie Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism (JİTEM) Organization. Parlak was killed with a single bullet to the back of his neck, which was reminiscent of Hezboullah’s method of execution (August 18).
