In the trial held by the İstanbul Anadolu 5th High Criminal Court over the killing of Syrian activist Orouba Barakat and her daughter journalist Halla Barakat, defendant Ahmet Bereket was sentenced to life imprisonment on charge of “deliberate murder” for killing Orouba Barakat and sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment on charge of “deliberate murder with the aim of concealing an offense, removing its evidence or facilitating its commital or not being caught” for killing Halla Barakat. While the murder suspect said during the investigation that he committed the murders because his money had not been paid, he denied having committed the murders during the trial (March 13).
