The İstanbul Civil Court of First Instance ruled that the statement “being on the side of Turkey’s enemies,” made by Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chair Ümit Özdağ about former Halk TV presenter Şirin Payzın, did not constitute defamation. Represented by lawyer Serdar Laçin, Payzın’s claim for 50,000 TL in damages was dismissed during the 24 October hearing. The court stated that the reasoning for the decision would be provided at a later date.
