Defendants penalized for attacking Ahmet Hakan: The İstanbul 39th Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced five defendants  (Yahya Kemal Gezen, Uğur Adıyaman, Kamuran Ergin, Fuat Elmas, Ahmet Şengüler) to 2 years, 2 months, 20 days in prison each on charge of “deliberate injury” on the grounds that they attacked Ahmet Hakan Coşkun in front of his house in 2015, when he was a columnist for Hürriyet. Two defendants were acquitted. The court also ruled that defendants Yahya Kemal Gezen, Uğur Adıyaman, Kamuran Ergin, Fuat Elmas, Ahmet Şengüler should be sentenced to pay a judicial fine of 3 thousand lira each for “damaging property”. Defendant Ahmet Şengüler was given a deferred judicial fine of 3 thousand 600 lira for “insult” (June 10).
