The Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared a new indictment requesting a merger against journalist Abdurrahman Gök, accusing him of “membership in an organization” under Article 314/2 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). The Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court accepted the indictment and merged it with Gök’s ongoing case in which he is already being tried for “membership in an organization” (TCK 314/2) and “propaganda for an organization” (Article 7/2 of the Anti-Terror Law – TMK).
The indictment is based on the 2022 statements of a secret witness codenamed “K8Ç4B3L1T5”, who described Gök’s journalistic activities and his photographing of Kemal Kurkut’s killing during the 2017 Diyarbakır Newroz as “organizational links.” Gök was detained on 25 April 2023, held in pre-trial detention for 225 days, and later released. The next hearing of the merged case is scheduled for 25 November 2025.

The ninth hearing of journalist Abdurrahman Gök’s trial on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” and “terrorist propaganda” was held at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court. Gök stated in his defense that all anonymous and open witness testimonies were based solely on his photo of Kemal Kurkut, and emphasized that he had engaged in no activities other than journalism. He noted that the international travel ban amounted to a second punishment. The court ruled to continue the travel ban and judicial control measures and adjourned the trial to 26 February 2026.
