Ali Ergin Demirhan, editor of the sendika.org news website, a media outlet critical of the Turkish government, was detained on accusations of “insulting the President of the Republic”Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

He announced that he was detained by the police during a General Information Gathering (GBT) records check while travelling. In his tweet the journalist also said he has not yet received any notification from the judicial authorities about an investigation againts him but was currently in custody on charges of Insulting the President of the Republic regarding his tweets.

After giving his statement, he was released on June 29 2019
