Having reported on a sexual assault against a 16-year-old girl in Van’s Muradiye district, journalist Oktay Candemir faced an investigation on charge of “publicly spreading misleading information” (as per the Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code  – TCK).

Faced with an investigation launched by the Muradiye Public Prosecutor’s Office as per the “disinformation” law, which entered into force on October 18, 2022, Candemir was summoned to give his statement at the police station. After giving his statement, he left the station (January 14).

At the hearing on November 15, the court acquitted Candemir (November 15).
