On the grounds of their news about the allegations of crime group leader Sedat Peker regarding Turkuvaz Media group’s owner Serhat Albayrak, an investigation was launched against Yeni Yaşam newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief Ferhat Çelik and its Managing Editor Osman Akın on charges of “insult” (as per the Article 125 of the Turkish Penal Code – TCK) and “libel” (as per the Article 267 of the TCK).

Akın, upon the criminal complaint of Albayrak, gave his statement as part of the investigation at the İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan on November 15, 2022. Akın was asked questions about the newspaper’s news reports titled “Revelations from Sedat Peker”, “Peker releases bribery papers” and “Albayraks are there, too” (November 15).

The case continued on January 30 at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance. The court ruled that the execution of the warrant against Çelik should be awaited. The hearing was adjourned until May 14 (January 30).
