An investigation has been launched against Yılmaz Özdil, a columnist for Sözcü newspaper, on the grounds that in the title of his article “What are the bar associations doing at the Tbmm...” (Baroların ne işi var Tbmm’de…) dated July 4, 2020, he wrote the last three letters of the TBMM, the abbreviation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, in lower case. Özdil is facing the charge of “degrading the nation, state of the Republic of Turkey, the organs and institutions of the state” as per the Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) (January 21).
