Director and Cumhuriyet Newspaper columnist Işıl Özgentürk is standing trial for allegedly propagandizing for a terrorist organization. The charges against Özgentürk are based on two posts and two pictures shared via her social media account back in 2015.
The first hearing of the trial was held on 5 December 2019 at İstanbul 28th High Criminal Court. The prosecution office requested Özgentürk to be convicted for propagandizing for a terrorist organization successively. The court adjourned the trial until March 5.
On March 5, İstanbul 28th High Criminal Court decided to acquit Özgentürk by the majority of votes
