A lawsuit has been filed against journalist İskender Karaman on the grounds that he allegedly “propagandized for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)” with his articles on Yüksekova Haber news website, where he commented on the local people’s perception of the Afrin operation and its potential local and international consequences in 2018. Facing 7 years, 6 months in prison, he will appear before the judge at the Hakkari High Criminal Court on January 11, 2022 (November 11).

The first hearing will be held on January 11, 2022 (December 14).

At the first hearing held on January 11, the Hakkari High Criminal Court gave a decision of non-jurisdiction. Indicating that the authorized court to hear the case is the Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court, the court board referred the case to the Court of Disputes of the Court of Cassation (January 11).

The Ankara 22nd High Criminal Court dismissed the case against journalist İskender Kahraman, who was on trial for “terrorist propaganda” over his 2017 and 2018 articles on Rojava and Afrin published in Yüksekova Haber. At the hearing, which Kahraman attended via SEGBİS from Hakkari with his lawyer, it was also noted that proceedings could not be initiated on separate allegations of “insulting the security forces” due to the Ministry of Justice’s refusal to grant authorization.
