Following the detention of İhlas News Agency (İHA) reporter Sebahattin Yum over his report titled “Governor has umbrella, veterans don’t,” İHA Iğdır reporter and President of the Iğdır Working Journalists Association, Ercan Tunç, was also detained on 16 October 2025 for filming Yum’s release from the police station.

Yum had been detained based on a complaint filed by Iğdır Governor Ercan Turan under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code, which criminalizes “publicly disseminating misleading information.” It was reported that Tunç, who recorded Yum’s release after his interrogation, was detained on the same day by officers from the Iğdır Police Security Branch.
