Istanbul Prosecution Office initiated a criminal investigation against Sedat Peker who was convicted for being the leader of a criminal organization and who is an outspoken government supporter, due to his statements regarding Fatih Altaylı in October 2017.

On January 22, the court rendered its decision and acquitted Peker who was standing trial for threatening TV and internet journalist Fatih Altaylı.

According to Evrensel, Peker told the court, “I have said that the fact that I have not killed him [Altaylı] alone proves that I am not a leader of a criminal organization. I have no intent of threat by this [remark]. Actually, I even find it strange that I am on trial.” The court acquitted Peker, agreeing that no crime was committed.
