An investigation was launched by the Kızıltepe Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office against JINNEWS News Director Öznur Değer on the allegation of “resisting a public officer in the performance of duty” under Article 265 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). Journalist Öznur Değer gave her statement at the Kızıltepe Police Department on 15 October 2025, accompanied by her lawyer.
In her statement, Değer said that she was subjected to torture during a police raid on her home on 7 February 2025. She stated that the door was broken with a battering ram before she could open it, that officers grabbed her by the throat, held a gun to her head, and threatened to kill her.
Değer added that both physical and psychological torture continued throughout the raid and reminded that she had filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office on 10 February against the police officers involved in the abuse. “After the violence I suffered and the complaint I filed, I learned that seven months later, an investigation was opened against me on the allegation of resisting the police. This investigation is, in effect, a continuation of a revenge operation,” she said.
