As part of an investigation into the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), Evrensel newspaper columnist Ender İmrek was taken into custody on the morning of 18 February along with around 280 other individuals. After four days in detention, he was brought before the İstanbul Criminal Judgeship of Peace, which ordered his release under house arrest.

Journalist-writer Ender İmrek, who had been placed under house arrest on 21 February as part of the HDK investigation, was released from the restriction on its 100th day. On 29 May, the probation office informed him by phone that the measure was lifted. Imrek described the operation as unlawful, stating that journalists, writers, and politicians were being targeted and that the government aimed to suppress all opposition.
