During the sit-in protest against the conviction of Van Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Abdullah Zeydan, six journalists were detained by the police. Among those detained were JINNEWS reporter Rabia Önver, freelance journalist Ruşen Takva, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporters Bilal Babat and Mehmet Güleş, and journalists Medine Mamedoğlu and Behçet Bayhan. Güleş was beaten during detention and later released without giving a statement.
