The second 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance in Istanbul, on October 12, 2017, sentenced the former editor-in-chief for the shuttered Özgür Gündem Eren Keskin 3000 Turkish Liras of fines for “Degrading the Organs and Institutions of the State” due to her article entitled “Radical Evilness” published on April 19, 2018, in now shuttered Özgür Gündem by statutory decree. The court did not suspend the sentence on the grounds of previous conviction and that “she did not make a statement of penitence.”
