Upon the complaint of former general secretariat of Gaziantep University Ercan Eroğlu, a criminal case was filed against Güreş, with the allegation of threat and insult. On 21 December Gaziantep 9. Criminal Court of First Instance found Gaziantep-based journalist Murat Güreş guilty of “insulting a public official” and ordered judicial fine.
