Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure filed a lawsuit for damages against Karar newspaper columnist Akif Beki on charge of “libel” (as per the Turkish Penal Code – TCK Article 267) and demanded 250 thousand lira in damages over his article titled “What were you expecting, my pro-AK Party friend?

Commenting on the lawsuit, Beki said, “A call would have sufficed for the right of response or revision. There was no need to pay for notary or court. Unless the aim is to intimidate, oppress or deter…” (January 27).
