On the grounds of the news report “Erdoğan family and the state are like the Bayraktar’s sales representatives: Family-size war trade” published in Yeni Yaşam newspaper on November 12, 2021 and the news report “How are the Bayraktar armed drones sold to which country” published on the website of the newspaper on November 22, 2021, President Erdoğan’s son-in-law and Baykar Defense Technical Manager Selçuk Bayraktar filed a lawsuit against Yeni Yaşam newspaper and journalist Sedat Yılmaz and requested 150 thousand Turkish Lira (TRY) in non-pecuniary damages.

The first hearing of the case will be held at the İstanbul Bakırköy 14th Civil Court of First Instance on May 16, 2022 (April 8).

At the hearing held on May 16, the judge decided to conduct an economic and social situation research on journalist Sedat Yılmaz. The next hearing will be held on June 27 (May 16).

At the hearing held on June 27, 2022, the judge ruled that the case should be dismissed due to lack of capacity to sue; the detailed ruling will be pronounced at a later date (June 27).
