On the grounds of a social media post regarding the news about the “tax evasion” of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s son-in-law Berat Albayrak and his brother Serhat Albayrak, journalist Sedef Kabaş has been sentenced to pay 100 thousand Turkish Lira (TRY) in damages as part the lawsuit filed by Serhat Albayrak.

Announcing the ruling on her Twitter account on April 7, 2022, Kabaş said that the court concluded at the first hearing that she had “insulted” Serhat Albayrak. In her related social media post dated March 17, 2021, Kabaş commented on the Paradise Papers news about the off-shore accounts of Berat and Serhat Albayrak brothers in Malta (April 7).
