An indictment was prepared against journalist Metin Cihan on charges of “insult” (TCK 125) and “libel” (TCK 267) following a complaint by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s son Ahmet Burak Erdoğan, citing his social media posts. A lawsuit has been filed. In the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Cihan’s social media posts regarding maritime trade between Turkey and Israel were cited as the basis for the charges. The first hearing will be held on February 14 at the Istanbul 46th Criminal Court of First Instance (July 20th).
