The İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an indictment against journalist Metin Yoksu on charge of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”.

In the indictment, which was accepted by the İstanbul 23rd High Criminal Court, Yoksu’s social media posts were cited as the reason.

Yoksu stated the following on his social media account: “I was questioned at the Security Directorate about the news on Erdoğan, Binali Yıldırım, and Metin Akpınar that was shared on my Twitter account. My statement was taken there. They add the statement taken from another topic to another file. What the law!”

While the photos that Yoksu took at the funeral of those who lost their lives in the Suruç Massacre and his posts with the phrase “Kurdistan” were included in the indictment, an increase in the sentence was demanded because he shared his posts through the media. Yoksu’s Instagram posts were also included in the indictment.

The first hearing of the trial will be held on October 26, 2022 (June 17).

At the hearing held on October 26, 2022, the prosecutor’s office presented its final opinion as to the accusations and requested penalization for Yoksu. Yoksu requested additional time for defense. The court accepted Yoksu’s request. The next hearing will be held on April 18, 2023 (October 26).
