Arrested for 14 days in 2017 on charge of “violating the confidentiality of the investigation” on the grounds that “he had published the statement of a FETÖ suspect”, journalist Murat Güreş appealed to the Gaziantep 10th High Criminal Court due to “unfair arrest” after he was acquitted. As the court case that he filed ended in a ruling of damages of 1,600 Turkish Lira (TRY), he has taken the ruling to the Court of Appeals. Speaking about the case which has ended in damages much lower than the requested 70,000 TRY, the journalist has said, “We cannot be happy that we have won. More than the money, we will struggle so that the unlawfulness will be eliminated and justice will be served” (April 10).
