On January 26, 2021, photojournalist Bülent Kılıç was subjected to police violence during the 19th Pride March, being tortured and detained during news follow-up. AFP reporter Kılıç’s lawyers took legal action and demanded non-pecuniary damages and damages for the damaged equipment.
The İstanbul 8th Administrative Court reviewed the request for damages, concluded that the police officers had used “disproportionate force” against the journalist and ruled that Kılıç should be paid 30095.58 lira in damages in total (January 9, 2023).
