Battered while following the press statement to be made by the relatives of prisoners at Kartal Square in İstanbul on September 3, 2022, Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Doğan Kaynak and Etkin News Agency (ETHA) reporter Elif Bayburt, who was also detained, filed a criminal complaint against the police officers who had intervened against them.
In their complaint, Bayburt and Kaynak requested that the police officers be charged with “misconduct in office, torture, maltreatment, insult and injury” (September 8).
