In the trial over the attack on journalist Hakan Denizli in Seyhan district of Adana provicne on May 24, 2019, the Adana Criminal Court of First Instance ruled that five defendants should be given prison sentences varying from 1 year to 4 years; two defendants were acquitted of the offenses charged. V.T.A., who allegedly carried out an armed attack against the journalist in the car that he got in with his daughter and grandchild in Yeşilyurt Neighborhood, S.Ö., who allegedly helped the suspect to flee with a motorcycle, and V.C. and E.E., who allegedly instigated the attack, were taken into custody in a police operation. During his referral, suspect V.T.A. told the press he did not know that Hakan Denizli was a journalist, adding, “I don’t have any enmity with that person.” The journalist has announced that he will appeal against the ruling given for the ones who caused him to have two surgical operations in 19 days and to undergo physical therapy for 35 days (May 27).
