The Constitutional Court ruled that sentencing journalist Neşe İdil to 1 year and 3 months in prison for “terrorist propaganda” based on her social media posts violated her right to a fair trial. In the 2023 case, İdil argued the posts were journalistic. The Istanbul 22nd High Criminal Court deferred the announcement of the verdict. Following the rejection of her appeal, the Constitutional Court found that the deferral prevented judicial review, thus violating the right to a fair trial, and remitted the case for retrial.
