A lawsuit has been filed against Mezopotamya Agency reporter Ahmet Kanbal for “insulting a public official due to his or her duty” on the grounds of his post on social media, after Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu announced that he had resigned from office on April 12, 2020. Kanbal has written that “When a ship is bound to sink, it is always the mice that leave it first… It is a universal saying… When the mice leave, the ship goes down…”  The lawsuit has been filed over this message.

The indictment has been accepted by the Mardin 1st Penal Court of First Instance (25 June).

At the hearing of the case held on March 10, 2022, the court board ruled that journalist Ahmet Kanbal should be acquitted of the offense charged (March 10).
