On 14 May 2025, journalist Besime Yardım, owner of the news platform “Adana Bunu Konuşuyor”, was taken into custody in Adana on the charge of “publicly disseminating misleading information” under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code. The accusation followed her reporting on an arms smuggling operation in which 94 people were detained but 73 were later released, where she raised the question: “Is the problem with the judiciary or the police?”
The Adana 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace released her under judicial control, requiring her to sign at the police station once a week.
