Following the complaint of former Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Cumhuriyet newspaper’s Editor-in-Chief Mustafa Büyüksipahi and Managing Director Mustafa Birol Güger are being tried on the charge of “insulting a public official” (Tur Criminal Code Article 125/3).

At the hearing held at the Istanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance on 7 November, the court rejected the request for a stay and decided to issue an arrest warrant for Büyüksipahi and Güger. The next hearing will be on January 9 (November 7).
