An investigation was launched against cumhuriyet.com.tr’s Editor-in-Chief, Oğuz Güven, into the charges of “propagandasing for a terrorist organisation [FETÖ]” and “propagandising for a terrorist organisation [PKK] through publishing its statement via press” in connection with a headline that was soon changed above a report into the death of Denizli Republic Chief Prosecutor Mustafa Alper, who lost his life in an accident he was involved in on 10 May, 2017. Güven was arrested at his home on the morning of Friday 12 May ans arrested on May 15, 2017. He was released 32 days later and the lawsuit was opened against him in which he faces up to 10.5 years of imprisonment.
The 28th High Criminal Court in İstanbul sentenced him 3 years and 32 days of imprisonment for “propagandasing for a terrorist organisation [FETÖ]” and “propagandising for a terrorist organisation [PKK] through publishing its statement via press” in November 2017
