An investigation was launched against Özgür Boğatekin, the news director of Adıyaman Gerger Fırat Newspaper, due to his social media posts about the racist attack that claimed the lives of seven members of a Kurdish family in Konya’s Meram. He was charged with “provoking the public to hatred and hostility” as per the Article 216/1 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) (September 2).
Completing the investigation on September 9, 2021, the prosecutor’s office concluded that the related post of Boğatekin did not pose a threat to public security and the legal elements of the alleged crime were not constituted (September 9).
