The İstanbul 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced the former Editors-in-Chief of Özgür Gündem, Eren Keskin and the former managing editor of the paper, Reyhan Çapan to 5 years and 3 months for “insulting the President of the Republic” over the case including the news article entitled “Sarayın Kiralık Katilleri [The hitman of the Palace]” in its verdict dated 15 September 2018.

Its former columnist Hüseyin Aykol was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months and Ersin Çaksu was sentenced to 11 months and 20 days of imprisonment for the same offence.
