Hakan Sataroğlu, publisher of the Zeytin Efe newspaper in Burhaniye (Balıkesir), was attacked by CHP Municipal Council Member Nadir Bayram. Bayram slapped and punched the journalist while he was seated, then dragged him to the ground and kicked him in the head, causing him to lose consciousness briefly. Sataroğlu is not in critical condition.
Following public outcry, Bayram was arrested and detained on charges of “intentional injury.” CHP’s Balıkesir provincial chair announced that Bayram was referred to the disciplinary board for expulsion from the party.
