During the protests held in İstanbul’s Kadıköy district as part of the Boğaziçi University students’ reactions against the appointment of AKP’s Melih Bulu as a rector to their university, the police made an extensive use of tear gas against journalists. Trying to detain journalist Elif Akgül by battering her up, the police also targeted Halk TV reporter Erdinç Yılmaz, camera operator Murat Erkmen and Kazım Kızıl with plastic bullets (February 2).
