In the morning hours of August 22, 2022, the police raided Tokatköy Neighborhood in İstanbul’s Beykoz, where a set of demolitions were underway as part of an urban transformation project. A row ensued between the residents and the police. 16 residents of the neighborhood who tried to prevent the demolitions were detained. Police officers intervened against the journalists covering the tension during the evictions. Preventing journalist Sultan Eylem Keleş and the camera operator from KRT TV from reporting the news, the police also physically intervened against the latter.

In Hacıhüsrev Neighborhood in Beyoğlu, police teams blockaded the neighborhood on the same day so that the buildings could be evicted as part of an urban transformation project and the residents were requested to leave the buildings in an hour. Police officers prevented the press from filming the incident and forced them to keep off the area (August 22).
