The Legal Office of the Presidency of Religious Affairs filed a criminal complaint against Sefa Uyar’s news report titled “The government gave an instruction to muftis to win back the conservative electorate: Hit the ground” and published in Cumhuriyet newspaper on September 24, 2022. Bringing the charges of “libel” (Turkish Penal Code / TCK Article 267) and “inciting the public to enmity and hatred” (TCK Article 216), the petition requested a public suit against the managing editor and the related persons (September 26).
