Referring to the Main News Bulletin aired on TELE 1 on April 30 and May 24, the RTÜK fined the broadcaster with a “blackout” for five days on the ground that the (b) clause of the Article 8/1 of the Law on the Establishment and Broadcast Services of Radio and Televisions was violated. The decision dated July 1, was made due to statements of Mercan Yanardağ on Abdulhamid II.

Upon the objection of TV channel representatives, The Ankara 4th Administrative Court has suspended the execution of RTÜK’s decision until the court concludes a judgement.

Upon the appeal of RTÜK, the five-day blackout on opposition Tele1 TV channel went into effect on September 3.
