The house of Sayime Başçı, a reporter for Sözcü newspaper, in İstanbul’s Şişli was raided by the police on the night of October 12 on the grounds of a tip-off about a suicide bomber. Coming in front of her house in large numbers, the police broke down the door and entered the house.

Başçı was not at home during the raid but the neighbors wanted to intervene. Warned by the police “to return home and not to meddle”, neighbors enabled a phone call between Başçı, who was in Adana at the time, and the police. Afterwards, it turned out that the tip-off was baseless (October 12).
