Taken into custody on January 8, 2016 on the grounds that she had attended multiple protest demonstrations organized by the students of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University and held in pre-trial detention for 4 months, journalist Rojda Oğuz was put on trial on charges of “being a member of an armed terrorist organization” and “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”. Having her final hearing at the Van 4th High Criminal Court on September 16, 2022, Oğuz was acquitted of “membership” charges while she was sentenced to 1 year, 6 months, 22 days in prison for “terrorism propaganda”. The announcement of the verdict has been deferred (September 16).
