Having reported on the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl in Tatvan district of Bitlis, Bitlis News newspaper’s editor-in-chief and grant holder Sinan Aygül was sentenced to 10 months in prison on charge of “violating the confidentiality of the investigation.”

Aygül took the ruling to the appeals court. The appeals court reversed the 10-month prison sentence of the journalist, but it sentenced him to 5 months in prison on another charge (June 9).
