Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu applied to the Ankara Civil Court of First Instance and filed a lawsuit for non-pecuniary damages against Cumhuriyet newspaper, demanding 1 million lira. It is alleged that the news about Soylu targeted his personality rights, were purely fictional and sham and contained insults and libel (July 6).

After Cumhuriyet newspaper had reported on Sedat Peker’s allegations in its front page with the headline “Deep Relations” (Derin İlişkiler), Soylu threatened the newspaper on May 11, 2021.
