On May 9, 2017, the 2nd Assize Criminal Court of İstanbul sentenced the former grant holder of Evrensel daily Newspaper Arif Koşar and Vural Nasuhbeyoğlu, the former managing director to 11 months and 20 days of imprisonment for each, due to their article in which they have mentioned a quote from Cemil Bayık’s interview published in the shuttered Azadiya Welat. The prison sentence was substituted with 7000 Turkish Liras of judicial fine.
