The former editor-in-chief for İleri Haber newswebsite, Onur Emre Yağan is being tried for “propagandising for a terrorist organisation” through news articles published in İleri Haber website and its twitter account at the 33rd High Criminal Court of İstanbul.

At the first hearing on 3 December, the court accepted the excuse submitted by his lawyers and adjourned the hearing until March 20, 2020.

On March 20, court decided to postpone the trial due to corona virus pandemic.

At the hearing held on June 19, Yağan said that some of the news pieces listed as evidence in the indictment were published out of the period when he was working as chief editor. The court ordered that the case file be sent to the prosecutor for drafting of the opinion as to the accusations. The trial was adjourned until 13 July (19 June).

At the last hearing held on July 13, the prosecutor presented the final opinion as to the merits of the case and demanded to be sentenced for terror propaganda charges. The court ruled for journalist Yağan’s acquittal (13 July).
