Journalist and columnist Erbil Tuşalp penned an article called “Quotation” which was published on 26 November 2013. Upon the complaint filed by Fetullah Gülen, an indictment was prepared with the accusation of insult against Tuşalp.

On 11 December 2014, İstanbul Anatolian 2nd Assize Criminal Court convicted Tuşalp for insulting Fetullah Gülin and sentenced him with judicial fine for 1740 TL. The court deferred the pronouncement of the judgement.

Tuşalp lodged an individual application with the Constitutional Court on 5.12.2015 upon the finalization of the verdict. TCC found violation of the freedom of press and the freedom of expression of the applicant by decision no 2015/2595 dated on November 23, 2019.
