Journalist Nurcan Yalçın was sued for “aiding an organization knowingly and willingly” over the statements she used in her video interviews with people in front of the barricades in the Sur district of Diyarbakır between 2015-2016.

At the hearing held on May 17, the prosecutor’s office demanded that Yalçın be imprisoned for up to 15 years on charge of “knowingly and willingly aiding the organization” in the opinion as to the accusations. Giving the defendant Yalçın and her attorney additional time to complete their defense, the court adjourned the next hearing until July 5 (May 17).

At the hearing held on July 5, 2022, the temporary court board gave time to Yalçın’s lawyer to prepare the defense statement as to the accusations. The next hearing will be held on September 22 (July 5).

At the hearing held on September 22, 2022, the court found journalist Yalçın guilty of the offense charged and ruled that she should be sentenced to 2 years, 6 months in prison for “knowingly and willingly aiding the organization” (September 22).
