The second High Criminal Court in Istanbul sentenced the former editor-in-chief for the shuttered Özgür Gündem Eren Keskin and the managing director Reyhan Çapan to 2 years and 3 months of imprisonment for each on March 29, 2018, for “Degrading Turkish Nation, State of Turkish Republic, the Organs and Institutions of the State” due to the articles published in Özgür Gündem dated 21 and 22 November 2015. The prison sentences were not suspended.
